Fourth of July Weekend Safety

July 1, 2023

I hope this finds you well as we enter the holiday weekend! I wish you all a safe, happy, and sparkling Fourth of July!

If you are driving to your destination, you will not be alone. 2.8 million people will be traveling for the holiday across New England, up nearly 5% from last year, which was a record.

Connecticut State Police are boosting patrols for the holiday weekend, and they're looking out for distracted and drunk drivers.

In addition, please be careful if you are planning to use fireworks. They can cause serious eye injuries, including blindness, if the eye tissue gets damaged or torn. Below you will find some tips and important statistics to keep in mind while you're celebrating this weekend.

Finally, be sure to check out the Food Truck & Fireworks Extravaganza on Sunday at the Brass Mill Center! The event starts at 2 P.M. and includes 25 delicious food trucks including Paradise Island, Fried Dough Nation, and Sultan Kebab.

Bring your lawn chairs and watch the city's fireworks from the top of Holy Land's summit around 9:15 P.M.

If you plan to attend, please follow the following rules:

  • NO alcohol permitted in the parking lot or on property
  • Personal fireworks/sparklers are NOT permitted
  • NO pets except service animals
