Let's Talk About It: Boom Box Parade and Other Events in Windham

June 30, 2023

On my weekly public affairs show, “Let’s Talk About It,” we previewed some fun and important events happening in our community this summer including the 38th Annual Boom Box Parade and a walking tour of Saint Joseph Cemetery.

We spoke with Grand Marshal Wayne Norman who encouraged everyone to bring a working radio and to wear some red, white, and blue to the Boom Box Parade on July 4. The parade music was on 95.3 FM and WILI 1400-AM.

In the second half of the show, we heard from Kira Holmes, the Executive Director of the Windham Textile and History Museum, who also took part in the parade!

Holmes gave us a full breakdown of all the fun events planned this summer at the Windham Textile and History Museum. She explained how the museum worked with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to celebrate Juneteenth and the end of slavery. The museum honored local African Americans who served in the Civil War.

You can learn more about our community’s unique history on a walking tour of Saint Joseph Cemetery on Saturday, August 5 from 1:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M.
