Route 1 Improvement Plan in the Works

July 14, 2023

Plans are in the works to upgrade Route 1 in Milford to boost safety for everyone, to update aging drainage systems, and to improve access in our community. Experts are focused on addressing the aging drainage network near the Milvon Substation to alleviate routine flooding there. The project also includes improving traffic operations at Route 1 (Bridgeport Avenue) and Schoolhouse Road.

Here is the timeline from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) as long as the plan is accepted and funding is available:

  • Winter 2025: project design is expected to be completed
  • Summer 2026: construction is slated to begin

According to the CTDOT, this project will be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds. There will be a public informational meeting once the preliminary design is finished.
