Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday! Below, please find information on Yale's Global Health Justice Partnership workshop I attended, fun events in our community, and more. You can use the links below to navigate between sections.

Global Health Justice Partnership Workshop
Last week, I was invited to attend Yale’s Global Health Justice Partnership workshop on Gender and Harm Reduction due to substance misuse and addiction. Right now in Connecticut, four people are dying a day due to drug overdose. As the newly appointed Co-Chair of the Medical Assistance Program Oversight Council (MAPOC) Subcommittee on Women & Children, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from an extremely wide range of individuals about how we can reduce harm to women and children struggling with addiction. I look forward to continuing this difficult but extremely important work.

Fighting Climate Change
This month was filled with extreme and deadly weather events all over the world - including right here in Connecticut. As I'm sure you heard, both June and July were each the hottest such months ever since data has been collected. This past legislative session, we were not able to pass as much climate-related legislation as I, and many of my colleagues, would have liked. We are long past the time when incremental action will suffice. While I am committed to continuing to take action and fight to pass legislation that protects our state's environment and citizens, we cannot protect our climate without national leadership fighting for the same thing. I'm grateful for the work that has begun at the Federal level and look forward to best leveraging these initiatives here in CT.
