It was all smiles and waves as residents from 115 countries participated in a huge parade at the 2023 Gathering event! After a three year hiatus, The Gathering was back stronger and more organized than ever!
We had many proud residents take part including students from all 31 Waterbury public schools. Organizers estimate there were more than 10,000 people who enjoyed the food and festivities last Saturday.
Now in its eighth year, The Gathering is the largest multi-cultural festival in all New England, uniting every country that makes up the melting pot of Waterbury. It is a celebration of diversity and a safe space for everyone to learn about another country’s culture. Those who attended experienced food from each represented country along with musical and dance performances that highlight each nation’s culture.
Many thanks goes out to John Murray of the Waterbury Observer, Mayoral Aide Alexandra DeGirolamo, the Waterbury Police Department, the Waterbury Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1339, and the Waterbury Department of Public Works for their tireless efforts to make The Gathering a tremendous success.
