Honored as the First Brazilian American Elected to the Connecticut General Assembly

September 13, 2023

I'm excited to share with you that on Thursday, to coincide with Brazil's Independence Day, I had the honor of being recognized as the first Brazilian American elected to the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA).

Brazil's Independence Day holds great significance for millions of Brazilians around the world, including those of us who have made the United States our home. It is a day that symbolizes freedom, resilience, and the spirit of unity. As a proud Brazilian American, I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve our community and contribute to its growth.

When I arrived in Danbury at just seven years old, beginning to learn English, I never would have imagined I'd go on to become a state representative. This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the strength and diversity of our community. It's a reminder that regardless of our backgrounds, we can all strive for excellence and positively impact society. Together, we can break barriers and pave the way for future generations.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support throughout my journey. Your trust and belief in me have been instrumental in reaching this milestone. I promise to continue working tirelessly on your behalf, as titles without meaningful action hold no value. I remain committed to delivering for Danbury, ensuring your voice is heard and your needs are met.

I also want to thank my family, especially my loving wife and daughter, for their continuous love and support at every step of this journey. Additionally, I must acknowledge the fellow Brazilians who have fought for our community and worked towards making Danbury a more welcoming and inclusive for everyone. I admire and applaud their efforts as I stand on their shoulders.

To close, I want to acknowledge my father, who I carry with me. He always reminded me, 'to whom much is given, much is required.' Above all, he taught me to be humble, be kind, and to help others.
