Largest Ever CIF Grant Awarded to Tear Down Coal Plant

September 28, 2023

I am thrilled to announce the State of Connecticut’s Community Investment Fund (CIF) 2030 has approved the largest grant ever to Bridgeport. The city was awarded $22.5 million to cover the costs of demolishing and abating the decommissioned PSEG Harbor Station coal plant.

The removal of the plant will get rid of blight in the neighborhood and reconnect our residents to the harbor with the goal of preparing the site for further remediation and development.

Since the PSEG site is no longer zoned for industrial use, it is prime for future mixed-use development, including housing and commercial retail that will complement the other developments around Bridgeport Harbor.

I must thank Governor Ned Lamont and his administration for all their support and confidence that future development of the site will spur economic development in Bridgeport and the region.

The State Bond Commission, which is chaired by Governor Lamont, still needs to give final approval and will meet on October 6.
