Siting Council Meeting Recording
Earlier this week I told you about the Siting Council meeting to discuss the United Illuminating transmission line project in our community. In the past weeks and months, we've made clear to the Siting Council that we are united in our strong opposition to this project and that it will be overly disruptive and destructive on our community.

If you want to view the Siting Council meeting, you can watch it here. The password is:

+CCGbA1.

If you missed the meeting, I hope you'll check it out, and I'll be sure to continue providing updates on this critical issue.

Victim/Suspect Film Screening and Panel
This week I joined many colleagues, producer and journalist Rachel de Leon, US Attorney Sharmese Walcott, Ret. Police Detective Kerry Dalling, Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence and survivors for the extremely powerful screening of “Victim/Suspect”. This documentary uncovers a trend across America of young women reporting sexual assault only to end up being charged with false reporting. The film was difficult to watch but important. It’s now available on Netflix and I hope you’ll watch it.

Coalition to End Homelessness Panel
It was an honor to gather with legislators and activists alike for a panel run by the CT Coalition to End Homelessness this week. The panel was part of the CT CAN End Homelessness Legislative Roundtable series.

There are 834 homeless residents in Fairfield County alone, and the county needs 25,000 affordable units to close the affordability gap. Quite simply, we just need more housing in our state.

We must act now before this issue becomes a full-blown crisis in our state that we can't recover from, as we've seen in other high cost-of-living states. We need our local communities to step up and be a part of the solution and determine where and how housing can work in our localities. This work will be ongoing and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with local and state partners to make meaningful progress on this issue.

Mark Barnhart Shoutout
This week Mark Barnhart, the Director of Community and Economic Development in Fairfield, was recognized by the Connecticut Economic Development Association for his role in making Fairfield a Gold community at their annual awards ceremony.

The distinction comes after "a panel of reviewers studied Fairfield’s policies, plans and partnerships to identify the Town’s successful implementation of efficient and effective land use planning and economic development strategies," and Mark has played a critical role in all of it.

I was thrilled to be there to celebrate Mark's achievements with him - well done Mark and thank you for all you do for our community!

Campbell Treschuk Eagle Scout
I was so proud to present Campbell Treschuk a state citation for the major achievement of becoming an Eagle Scout this week. This is a defining moment in the lives of every Boy Scout, and Campbell has worked so hard over the years to reach this incredible milestone. Well done Campbell, and congratulations again!

Resilient Fairfield Flooding Public Meeting
Next Thursday, October 26 at 5:30pm in the Rotary Room at the Fairfield Public Library (1080 Old Post Rd.), Resilient Fairfield will hold a public meeting to present findings from a study on how to reduce flooding in low-lying underpasses.

The underpasses adjacent to the Post Rd. corridor suffer from severe flooding during storms that flows to low-points beneath the rail bridges and overwhelms the drainage network.

This public meeting will discuss the recommendations and the break down of their costs and benefits to address this critical issue. I hope you can make it!
