City Charter Revisions Debate & Mental Health Legislator of 2023

November 3, 2023

The Keep The Promise Coalition, a group advocating for a community mental health system across the state, named me the mental health legislator of the year. I am humbled by this honor and will continue my work to help those struggling with emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

I was also recently recognized for my advocacy toward protecting our planet. I received a 98% environmental score based on my voting record at the State Capitol.

Finally, please come out and vote on Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 7 either in person or via absentee ballot. I will provide more information about the importance of the charter revisions question placed on this year's ballot.

Mental Health Legislator of the Year

I am deeply honored to have been named the mental health legislator of the year! The Keep The Promise Coalition honored me and other awardees last week at a fantastic event. I will continue to be a mental health advocate and provide resources to educate everyone about important issues such as stress management, grief, and living healthier lives.

Mental health is also a contributing factor to homelessness. If we can develop more resources to help those with mental health challenges, it will allow more people to find stability, a permanent home, and a job. I will work with mental health advocates and leaders to address this head-on.

Protecting our ocean and our natural environment on land is a top priority. They’re all connected, and I will continue to be an advocate for preserving plant and animal populations, green energy, offshore wind, sustainability, and much more.

The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters recently awarded me a 98% rating on tis environmental scorecard. While it is nice to be recognized, there is sill so much more work to accomplish to protect our planet. For starters, we need to pass new legislation protecting black bears and addressing the unintentional feeding of these animals.

We also need to, once again, create a roadmap to decarbonize our state’s economy and secure federal funding for this effort. I propose encouraging the development and adoption of new technologies, practices, and business models that enable the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. We can work with the existing language on the bill that passed the House in 2023. Unfortunately, the bill never made it to the Senate floor. I have many other ideas, and I’m working with my colleagues accomplish our common goals in 2024.

Stamford will host a Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, September 5 at 12 P.M. starting at the Police Department then going to Veterans Memorial Park via Bedford Street, across Broad Street, and continuing on Atlantic Street.

There will be a ceremony immediately after the parade in Veterans Memorial Park.
