Veterans Day Ceremonies
Many communities all over the country will honor our heroes over the Veterans Day Weekend. It’s a day to thank and recognize the more than 19 million men and women who have served in the U.S. military. Please look below to see where you can pay tribute to our veterans this weekend.

The annual Woodbridge Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 11 A.M. this morning in the Center Building gym at 4 Meetinghouse Lane. Dr. Barry Josephs, a U.S. Army Captain and Vietnam veteran, will lead the program. The ceremony will include patriotic music, a memorial wreath presentation, invocation by Reverend Brian Bodt, the police honor guard, and remarks from local elected officials.

Derby will host its Veterans Day Ceremony on Saturday, November 11 at
10:30 A.M.
on the Derby Green. The flier below has more information.

The American Legion will host a Veterans Day Ceremony on Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 A.M. at High Plains Community Center.

The Town of Hamden is hosting a Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 A.M. in front of Hamden Middle school on Dixwell Avenue. Veterans’ organizations will lay wreaths at the Veterans Monument. The Hamden Fire Department will provide the Honor Guard for the ceremony.

As the sister of three combat veterans, I make it a priority to attend as many Veterans Day ceremonies as possible but unfortunately, this year I will not be able to attend any as I had surgery this week, and I’m at home recovering. I send my greatest respect and gratitude to all those who have served.

A special shout out to my three favorite veterans, my brothers, Sam, Steve, and Adam.

Federal Rail Funding

Commuters in the 114th district are going to benefit from a major investment into our rails. The federal government is providing up to $15.4 million to upgrade the New Haven Line network infrastructure.

The funding will cover project management, final design, and construction to replace and upgrade fiber optic communication cables and network infrastructure at 60 locations along the New Haven Line in Connecticut. The project will benefit Amtrak's intercity passenger rail, Metro-North Railroad's commuter rail, and freight operator services.

According to the Federal Railroad Association, this project funds the completion of the fourth and final phase of upgrades to network infrastructure along the New Haven Line. The Connecticut Department of Transportation will provide $2.7 million in matching funds and Amtrak will provide $1.1 million.

The feds are also kicking in another $122.8 million for the New Haven Line Power Improvement Program. The project includes final design and construction to replace seven substations and associated power equipment along the New Haven Line, from the New York border to New Haven.

Native American History Month

Did you know that the 1638 Treaty of Hartford banned uttering the Pequot name?  Are you familiar with the Mystic River Massacre?

Native peoples, including Pequots, Mohegans, Paugussets, and Schaghticokes, have lived on the land now called Connecticut for more than 12,000 years. This Native American Heritage Month, we must pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans in our state, while facing the truth of our history.
