Funding for Heating Help Bolstered

One of the first orders of business for the 2024 legislative session was to approve extra funding for depleted heating and fuel assistance programs that help vulnerable residents stay warm during winter.

Last week, we approved $17 million in additional funds for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Operation Fuel – two important programs that many residents and families rely on for cold weather heating assistance.

The Governor quickly signed the bill into law ensuring people will have access to the funds they need to help heat their homes through the cold weather season. As a compassionate state, it is our responsibility to make sure none of our neighbors must choose between paying their other household bills or freezing.

Enhancing the safety and quality of life for all residents is an important priority for government, and we will continue to face this ongoing challenge throughout this year's legislative session.
