Untreated Wastewater Entering Naugatuck River

August 20, 2024

Due to the recent downpours and flooding, I urge you and your family to stay away from any rushing water. Jacobs Engineering informed me that untreated wastewater is entering the Naugatuck River from the Waterbury Wastewater Treatment Plant since 5:50 P.M. on Sunday.

Jacobs Engineering is working around the clock to fix the problem and reduce the amount of untreated water going into the river. I encourage you not to go boating, fishing, or swimming. I will provide updates once I receive more information.

Additionally, you have a right to know when sewer overflows take place, and the Connecticut General Assembly has passed laws ensuring transparency on this issue. CLICK HERE to learn about the laws in place to protect the people of Connecticut.
