Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
January 30, 2025
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary legacy of a leader whose vision of justice, equality, and nonviolent resistance transformed our nation and inspired the world. Dr. King's unwavering commitment to civil rights reminds us of the power of courage, compassion, and collective action to create meaningful change.
I had the honor to attend two events in the community to commemorate Dr. King’s life with the community. The first event took place at Hartford Healthcare, where I had the privilege of speaking with retired U.S. Congressman Charles Rangel. We reflected on the incredible strides our nation has made in advancing civil rights and the ongoing work required to uphold Dr. King’s vision of equality, justice, and unity.
I also had the opportunity to speak at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Children’s March in Cheshire last weekend. It was a fantastic experience to speak to our youth - one of my personal highlights was seeing my grandson stand at the podium and read a letter he wrote to me on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in school.
Congratulations to all the children who spoke and rallied at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. It was a powerful reminder that young voices are our best chance at replenishing that infinite hope Dr. King spoke and dreamed of.
Together we can continue to advance the dream Dr. King so eloquently shared - a world where freedom and dignity are the birthright of all people.
