Energy Reforms to Help Lower Electric Bills

June 11, 2025

Bipartisan energy reform legislation overwhelmingly approved earlier this month by the General Assembly will help lower electricity bills both in the short and long term for Connecticut ratepayers.

In addition to some immediate savings, An Act Concerning Energy Affordability, Access and Accountability also looks to lower consumer electric bills in the long term through reductions in the public benefits charge as well as supply, delivery, and transmission fees.

Electric Rates

Making energy costs more affordable for residents and businesses is a complex and ongoing challenge, and this legislation represents an important step toward that goal through:

Lower Bills

  • Paying Down COVID-era Electric Debt
  • Cutting Charges for Solar, EVs & Fuel Cells
  • Smoothing Storm Recovery Costs to Avoid Rate Spikes

Smarter Grid

  • Require Cost-Saving Tech Reviews Before Undertaking Costly Grid Projects
  • Improve Planning and Transparency to Avoid Wasteful Upgrades that can Drive Up Bills

Stronger Future for CT Families

  • Support Advanced Nuclear & Geothermal
  • Incentivize Electric Grid Efficiency
  • Expand Dept. of Energy & Environmental Protection Clean Energy Planning Authority

In addition to the legislation, state energy regulators recently approved a 25% reduction in the public benefits charge and a 13% reduction in supply rates effective July 1.

Lower Rates

By easing direct costs on consumers, modernizing the electric grid, and investing in clean energy, we are working toward a more affordable and reliable energy future for all.
