Grants for After School Programs
November 5, 2025A variety of local after school programs around Connecticut are receiving a boost with a new round of state grants.
As part of the State Department of Education’s After-School Grant Program, $10.6 million is being distributed to 41 recipients in 30 cities and towns over the current and next school year to help enhance enrichment and academic support programming for students that extend beyond school hours.
After-school programs are a critical part of the overall educational experience, providing additional support, instruction and social interaction.
These programs are proven to be effective at boosting school attendance, student behavior and academic performance. Working families and the community at large also benefit by knowing children are participating in a safe, structured environment during off-school hours.
Grant recipients were chosen via a competitive evaluation process based on factors such as the needs of local students, foster family and community engagement, and a demonstrated effectiveness of the program. After school activities cross a wide spectrum including tutoring, mentoring, music, arts, athletics, health, and community service opportunities.
As an example, the Hartford Public Library is receiving a grant for their after-school programming, as is the Middlesex YMCA for their programming at Macdonough Elementary School and Gildersleeve Elementary School in Middletown.
Here's a complete list of each recipient and the school or community where they located.
