Dear Neighbor,
I had the opportunity to join the Young Democrats at Southington High School for a conversation about public service, leadership, and how young people can get involved in shaping our community. It was great to see such an engaged group of students who are genuinely interested in government and civic participation. |
| During the visit, I shared my own path—from developing an interest in government as a high school and college student, to serving on the Town Council, and now representing Southington at the State Capitol. We talked about the realities of public service, the importance of finding your voice, and the impact that local government has on everyday life. The students asked thoughtful questions and brought interesting perspectives to the discussion. |
I’m grateful for the club’s invitation and look forward to hosting these students at the State Capitol for a visit and tour during the upcoming legislative session. It’s inspiring to see the next generation stepping up, getting organized, and engaging in the democratic process.

| Supporting Future Connecticut Educators |
I recently joined Representative Kevin Brown and Erin Benham, Vice Chair of the State Board of Education, for a student-led panel at the Educators Rising Leadership Symposium at Wesleyan University. High school students from across Connecticut facilitated an excellent discussion on:
- gaining early teaching experience
- addressing the teacher shortage
- strengthening the educator pipeline
- supporting recruitment and retention efforts
It was inspiring to hear directly from students who are passionate about becoming teachers. Thank you to the organizers and participants for an energizing and meaningful event.
