If you have a Long-Term Care Insurance policy, you’ve probably experienced major premium increases year after year — with little explanation and no real relief.
Newington resident David Schwartzer has dedicated his retirement to fighting back and advocating for stronger regulations to protect consumers.
For the last several years, I’ve worked closely with David to introduce multiple bills aimed at increasing transparency, regulating premium hikes, and holding insurance companies accountable for their pricing mistakes. While we’ve made minimum process, awareness of the issue is increasing. But we need more voices like David’s to push for meaningful reforms.
Please take a moment to watch David’s story on NBC News here. His advocacy is a powerful reminder of why this issue matters and why we must continue the fight for fairness and consumer protection. |

Many costs are rising for families. By expanding infant, toddler, and preschool spaces, we’ll ensure more families have access to high-quality affordable early learning. Connecticut is adding up to 1,000 new spaces in the state’s Early Start CT program in January 2026.
An increase in provider rates will also improve compensation for early educators who play an invaluable role in shaping the futures of our youngest learners. |

While the $500 million emergency fund plans to cover the lack of funding for the national Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), there are other state resources available now.
The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program and Eversource offer resources for those in need to help to cover the cost of their home energy bills this winter. Visit ct.gov/dss or the Eversource website for more information.

| Visit from Newington 6th Graders |
|
|
This week, we had a special visit at the Capitol from the entire 6th grade class at Newington’s Martin Kellogg Middle School!
It’s always one of my favorite parts of being a State Representative — getting to meet with our young students and hear what’s on their minds.
Representative Kate Farrar, Senator Matt Lesser, BOE Chair Amy Perrotti, and I all had the chance to listen to some fantastic ideas, including starting school a little later so students aren’t as tired, and bringing back recess after lunch — which I definitely agree with!
It’s inspiring to see our future leaders already thinking critically about how to improve their schools and community.
Great job, Martin Kellogg 6th graders! |

Together with Mayor Jon Trister, Newington Town Councilor Kathy Gonzalez , and the Newington Police and Newington Volunteer Fire Department, we helped load the turkeys into dozens of cars. Link to the New Britain Herald here. |
