Crews Working Nonstop To Restore Water Service

December 16, 2025

The City of Waterbury continues working around the clock to safely restore water service following the recent system-wide shutdown. Crews turned the water back on Monday night, carefully reintroducing water into a pair of 12-inch low-pressure mains while removing air from the pipes. This deliberate process must be done slowly to prevent damage and avoid additional outages that could further affect homes and businesses.

It will take at least a few more days to fully restore water service, and a boil water advisory remains in effect for much of the city. Once service is restored, experts recommend running cold water through a bathtub until the water is clear, then shutting the faucet off. We ask that you continue to be patient as crews work nonstop to get the situation under control.
The Connecticut National Guard, volunteers, and many others continued to hand out bottled water at distribution sties on Tuesday at Municipal Stadium and Crosby High School. City workers are prioritizing delivery to residents who are sick, homebound, and elderly.

I have been out in the community handing out water bottles to dozens of residents in need, many of whom are understandably frustrated by this disruption. I will continue doing everything I can to support those who need help during this difficult time.

Additionally, the Greater Waterbury YMCA, ACES Chase Academy, and Naugatuck YMCA are offering shower access to Waterbury residents in need.
