Energy Saving Tips & Expansion of Legal Services For Those In Need

January 20, 2026

We are in the midst of Energy Savings Week, and it's a great time to think about simple, practical ways to improve energy efficiency in your home. Below, I'm sharing tips that can help lower your energy bills and reduce energy use.

I'm pleased to share good news for Waterbury residents: free and affordable legal services are expanding in our city for those in need. Keep scrolling to learn more about Connecticut Legal Services' new, expanded location.

The Waterbury community showed up in a big way for a free mobile food distribution, supporting families facing food insecurity. I’ve included photos from this event highlighting the power of neighbors helping neighbors.

Energy Savings Week

January 15 through January 26 is Energy Savings Week in Connecticut. Here are some tips to improve the energy efficiency of your home or business.

In addition, there are resources such as a home energy assessment or energy efficiency programs available to help lower your bills.

Expansion of Legal Services For Those In Need

I was honored to join the celebration marking the opening of Connecticut Legal Services' (CLS) new, expanded office at 255 Bank Street in downtown Waterbury. For nearly 50 years, CLS has provided vital legal assistance to low-income individuals and families across the Greater Waterbury region for free or at little cost, helping ensure access to justice for those who need it most.
Thank you to the dedicated lawyers and staff at CLS for your steadfast commitment to equity and fairness. Your work makes a real difference in our community, and this expanded space will allow you to serve even more residents in need.

Foodshare Distributes Nutritious Food

I was grateful for the opportunity to help serve nutritious food to some of our most vulnerable neighbors as Foodshare brought fresh produce, dairy, and other essential groceries directly to Waterbury residents earlier this month. Set up at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Baldwin Street, the distribution looked like a pop-up outdoor farmer's market, welcoming anyone in need to receive healthy food with dignity and no questions asked.

Foodshare CEO Jason Jakubowski, my colleague Representative Larry Butler, and a team of dedicated volunteers were on hand to make the event possible. Their commitment reflects the power of partnership in addressing food insecurity at the local level.

Waterbury is currently home to four Foodshare mobile distribution sites, and work is underway to establish a fifth location in the city's South End. This expansion is critically needed, and I am deeply grateful for Foodshare's continued investment in our community. Ensuring access to healthy, nutritious food remains a priority as we work together to support families and strengthen public health across our city.

Paying Tribute to Roberto Clemente

I joined a small group of Roberto Clemente fans to honor the life and legacy of the baseball icon and humanitarian at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. On December 31, we placed a wreath adorned with sunflowers and a yellow bow to mark 53 years since Clemente tragically lost his life in a plane crash during a humanitarian mission from Puerto Rico to Nicaragua.
Roberto Clemente's unwavering commitment to service and compassion for those in need continue to inspire generations. He believed deeply in using his platform to help others, especially in times of crisis, and he lived that belief until his final moments. His legacy reminds us that greatness is measured not only by athletic achievement, but by the lives we uplift along the way.
