Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday!

A reminder to please join me next Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6pm at the Plainville Public Library's Chase Auditorium (56 E Main St., Plainville) for a pizza and policy event!

We will discuss the upcoming legislative session, my priorities, and the issues that are on your mind.

We will also be joined by representatives from Human Resources Agency (HRA) and Generation Power to share programs and resources.

HRA is dedicated to increasing economic self-sufficiency in individuals and families in great New Britain Bristol, and surrounding towns. They provide assistance with early childhood education, employment and training, energy and housing, and health and wellness.

Generation Power provides resources and helps residents retain access to heat, energy, and water.

Please RSVP for this event by emailing me at Rebecca.Martinez@cga.ct.gov or calling Jason Knight at 860-240-8568. I hope to see you there!

Governor Ned Lamont activated Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol today at noon, and it will remain in effect until noon on Wednesday, January 28, due to a blast of extremely cold air that will impact the state during this period.

Please be reminded that warming centers throughout the area are available for individuals and families in need. You can search for them here. These locations provide a safe, heated space during extreme cold conditions.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Human trafficking is a crime that thrives in the shadows. This month, we shine a light and step into action to prevent human trafficking in Connecticut. During the 2025 session, we passed bipartisan legislation prohibiting various forms of discrimination by employers and owners of prospective rental units based on someone’s status as a sexual assault or human trafficking victim.

Connecticut is the Fourth Healthiest State!

Connecticut was ranked 4th Healthiest State in the Nation by the United Health Foundation. This score is determined by data collection in areas related to social and economic factors, physical environment, access to healthcare, health outcomes and behavior. I'm proud to live in a state that prioritizes the health and wellbeing of our residents!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Martinez
State Representative
