I want to share an update on an issue that started right here in Danbury.
Over the past few years, I’ve heard directly from residents at Shady Acres Mobile Home Park about rising rents, hidden fees, and a lack of transparency from park ownership. Those conversations stayed with me and I brought them with me to Hartford.
This session, I worked with my colleagues on the General Law Committee, along with Rep. Rebecca Martinez, to turn those concerns into action.
I’m proud to share that our bill, HB 5226, has now been voted out of committee and is moving forward in the legislative process.
This bill builds on legislation I originally introduced with Senator Julie Kushner in 2025 and reflects the real experiences of residents here in our community.
Here’s what we’re working to do:
✔️ Require full transparency on rent and fees so residents know exactly what they’re paying ✔️ Ensure advance notice for rent increases, giving families time to plan ✔️ Create a fair process to challenge unreasonable rent hikes ✔️ Improve the complaint process through the Department of Consumer Protection ✔️ Strengthen protections for residents when parks are sold or ownership changes
This is about fairness, accountability, and making sure people who own their homes, but rent the land underneath, aren’t left without protections.
We’ve made real progress, but there’s more work ahead. I’ll keep pushing to get this across the finish line.
If you or someone you know lives in a mobile home community and wants to share your experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for continuing to speak up, your voices are making a difference.
