A Major Win for Waterbury in the State Budget

May 6, 2026

After months of negotiation, House Democrats worked across the aisle to pass a bipartisan budget proving that compromise still works and that leadership at the Capitol is committed to delivering results for communities like Waterbury.

This budget makes historic investments in education, housing, transportation, and municipal aid all while protecting Connecticut’s strong fiscal outlook and dedicating $1 billion toward paying down long-term debt.

For the Brass City, this impact is significant.

I am proud of the Waterbury Delegation for securing $268 million dollars for our city, including nearly $20 million in new funds to support our schools and critical municipal services. Capitol leadership recognized Waterbury’s needs and partnered with us to ensure our city received the support it deserves.

This investment will strengthen classroom instruction, support students and educators, and provide more stability for Waterbury Public Schools. It will also help the city maintain essential services, bolster public safety, improve infrastructure, and ease pressure on local taxpayers.

By working together and advocating strongly for Waterbury, we delivered meaningful results that will help our city grow for the future.

Connecticut residents made a call for help in many areas. Connecticut lawmakers heard it and answered in a strong, bipartisan way.
