Updates from State Rep. Farley Santos for June 17, 2026

June 17, 2026

Several new laws will take effect on July 1.

Among them is Public Act 26-42, which expands access to voting by allowing any eligible voter to cast an absentee ballot without needing to provide a specific reason. The law removes outdated restrictions that previously limited absentee voting to a narrow set of circumstances.

Another new law, Public Act 26-12, strengthens recruitment and retention efforts for Connecticut's first responders. The legislation expands benefits such as tuition waivers and mortgage assistance for police officers, firefighters, correction officers, EMS personnel, and National Guard members, while also providing support for the families of certain public safety personnel who die in the line of duty.

Public Act 26-1 provides stronger workplace protections for employees at warehouses and fulfillment centers. The law ensures that productivity quotas do not interfere with legally required meal and bathroom breaks and requires employers to clearly communicate any quotas workers are expected to meet.

Diverse Danbury

No surprise here. We’re working hard to make Danbury even better!

Juneteenth Celebration in Danbury

Speaking of diversity, Danbury's Juneteenth celebration is tomorrow. Please see the details below.

Congrats to the Graduates!

Congratulations to all the graduates of the Alternative Center for Excellence! 🎓

You’ve overcome challenges, stayed determined, and proved there’s nothing you can’t accomplish.

Today is proof that perseverance pays off.

A special thank you to Principal Webber and the incredible teachers and staff whose dedication changes lives every day.

Go make us proud, graduates! Your future is bright!

Greek Experience Festival

The Greek Experience Festival is a Danbury staple that we look forward to every year. Nobody beats their gyros and loukoumades. Well, actually everything is great — the people, the food, the traditions — all excellent.

Great to stop in with Governor Ned Lamont on Saturday and to see friends on Sunday. Always good to see Ioannis Rountos and a younger generation partaking in these traditions.

Scholarship Presentation

This week, I had the privilege of returning to Henry Abbott Technical High School, to present the 2026 Landon Jack Verissimo Santos Memorial Scholarship Inc. to an extraordinary young woman.

Isabelle has persevered through adversity, achieved incredible success already, and is well on her way to building a proud legacy of her own. A standout student, athlete, and leader, she represents everything this scholarship was created to honor.

Knowing that our son Landon’s legacy can help support and uplift remarkable young people like Isabelle means more than words can express. Through her hard work, determination, and future success, she will help carry that legacy forward.

It was also special to witness the first recipients of the John J. Pudelko Precision Manufacturing Scholarship and the Norman Carvalho, Sr. Scholarship. Mr. Carvalho was once my customer during my banking days, and his son was my baseball coach at Abbott Tech, seeing their family honor his legacy was truly meaningful.

And it was great to run into my former 4th Ward Council colleague, John Esposito, an Abbott Tech graduate and successful businessman, back at his alma mater giving back and mentoring the next generation.

Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients. The future is bright.

Celebrating Philippine Independence

🇵🇭🇺🇸

Honored to join the Filipino-American Association of Western CT at Heritage Plaza to celebrate 128 years of Philippine Independence with a special flag raising ceremony.

A wonderful celebration of culture, history, and community pride. Thank you to everyone who joined us in recognizing the many contributions of the Filipino community here in Danbury and beyond.

Mayor's Watch Parties

Now THAT’S how you start a World Cup. ⚽🔥 Team USA wins 4-1! 🇺🇸

Awesome seeing so many people come out to cheer on the red, white, and blue and pack out Pippa's Sports Cafe. Great game for a great crowd.

Grateful to everyone who came out to support Team USA, this energy was special. 🇺🇸

One game down … let’s keep it rolling!

Meanwhile, Brazil's first World Cup game was a little frustrating. Brazilians want to win every time, but a tie isn’t a loss so we’ll take it.

The Mayor’s Watch Party brought family and friends together for a fun time. 🇺🇸🇧🇷

We opened the World Cup watch-a-thon at Pacho’s Tacos with a BIG 2-0 win for Mexico.

The atmosphere was absolutely electric! Great to be with our friends from the Mexican Cultural Center.

If you haven’t had the food at Pacho’s, you are seriously missing out. Go see Primitivo and the family at Pacho’s Tacos on White Street and thank me later. 🌮

And yes … when you bump into the only other Farley S. in Danbury (maybe even the whole state), you’ve got to grab a picture together!

State Champs!

BIG SHOUT-OUT to my former intern (and maybe future summer intern), Jake P., and his teammates for winning the CIAC Class M STATE CHAMPIONSHIP last Friday on the same field he’ll be playing for Wesleyan University!

In the short time Jake interned with me, it was clear he is hardworking, motivated, focused, and determined to succeed. The kind of young person you know is going places.

A well-earned and well-deserved victory for Jake and the entire New Fairfield High School Rebels team.

Firefighter Promotion & Awards

A great celebration of the heroes of the Danbury Fire Department, Danbury Professional Fire Fighters, Local 801, IAFF, and our community at the Promotion & Awards Ceremony.

Congratulations to every firefighter promoted, including our new Fire Chief, William Lounsbury, whose career of service and dedication to Danbury has more than earned this moment.

We also honored firefighters recognized for extraordinary bravery, a reminder of the courage it takes to answer the call.

At the Capitol, I’ll always fight, as I have, to protect firefighters through better staffing, strong benefits, cancer protections, and the resources they deserve.

I’ve gotten to know some of these guys, their bravery, and outstanding service. Proud of every one of the honorees. Thank you for keeping Danbury safe!

Flag Day

On Flag Day, I was reminded of just how honored I am to have raised my right hand and sworn allegiance to this flag and all that it signifies.

For me, the American flag represents sacrifice, opportunity, resilience, and the promise that no matter where you come from, hard work and service to others matter. It stands as a reminder of the brave men and women who sacrificed so much, some giving everything, to defend the freedoms and values we hold dear.

As an immigrant who came to this country as a child, becoming an American citizen and pledging allegiance to this nation was one of the proudest moments of my life. I never take for granted the privilege of serving the community that gave my family opportunity and hope.

I work every day to ensure that the promise of this country remains strong, that future generations inherit a nation worth believing in, and that we never forget the sacrifices made so we can live freely under this flag.

Happy Flag Day.

Chamber Awards

Congratulations to the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce Award recipients! Well done Maura and team.

🏆 Big Employer of the Year: Todd Ingersoll & Ingersoll Auto Group
🏆 Mid-Size Employer: Paul Scalzo & Scalzo Group
🏆 Leadership Award: Retired Probate Judge Dianne Yamin
🏆 Community Service & Volunteer Award: ToniAnn Marchione

Danbury is thriving because of leaders, job creators, and community champions like those recognized tonight. Mayor Roberto Alves and I are incredibly grateful for everyone investing in our city and believing in its future.

This administration believes progress doesn’t happen by sitting behind a desk. It happens by rolling up your sleeves, building partnerships, and going out to make things happen. Look around Danbury and you’ll see growth, investment, and improvements on every corner, and we’re just getting started.
Danbury is open for business, and we want you to do it right here!

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
