Dear Neighbor,

This week, I had the honor of touring C.V. Industries, a family-owned manufacturer right here in Southington with a long history of excellence in Connecticut’s aerospace and defense sectors. Their advanced technology, skilled workforce, and partnerships with companies like Pratt & Whitney, Electric Boat, and Sikorsky highlight just how essential they are to our state’s manufacturing strength.

It was impressive to see firsthand the precision, innovation, and pride that drives their operation. Connecticut needs more businesses like CV Industries — companies that are not only creating jobs, but also strengthening our economy and supporting key industries.

Southington is fortunate to have such a successful and respected business in town, and I fully support their continued growth and expansion. I’ll continue to do everything I can to assist them in that effort.

Please continue reading below for other noteworthy items, and thanks as always for taking the time to read them!

Expanding Access to Biomarker Testing

I was proud to cosponsor legislation this session that expands access to biomarker testing — an important step forward in advancing personalized medicine and improving patient care in Connecticut. Under this new law, health insurance policies will be required to cover biomarker testing used to diagnose and treat diseases like cancer, when supported by medical and scientific evidence such as FDA approval, Medicare coverage, or nationally recognized clinical guidelines. Biomarker testing can detect specific gene mutations, proteins, or other biological markers that help doctors make more accurate diagnoses and develop targeted treatment plans.

This law (PA 25-16, §§ 4 & 5) takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026, and has the potential to save lives, improve health outcomes, and reduce the time and cost of finding the most effective treatments. I’m proud to support policies that ensure patients have access to the tools and technology they need to receive the best care possible.

Fitness Improvements Underway
at Calendar House

Great news! The Calendar House has added a new Concept2 RowErg rower to its cardio room as part of a $100,000 ARPA grant that I helped secure last year, in collaboration with Town Staff and Representative Jane Garibay, House Chair of the Aging Committee. This grant supports an active senior fitness initiative and helps enhance wellness opportunities in our community.

I’m especially looking forward to the upcoming installation of the pickleball courts — also included in the grant. I’ve got a standing challenge for a game against Rep. Garibay as soon as they open!

Heat Advisory

Due to an anticipated stretch of high temperatures, the state is activating its Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, effective at noon on Sunday, June 22. The protocol will remain in effect through at least 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.

This is the first time this year that the protocol is being activated. The current forecast calls for temperatures to exceed 90 degrees over this period, with a heat index that could range from between 100 to 105 degrees.

The purpose of activating the protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the hot conditions. While enacted, a system is set up for state agencies, municipalities, and other partners to coordinate with United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location for those in need of relief.

Cooling centers will be available throughout the state. Anyone in need of a place to get out of the heat can locate their nearest cooling center by calling 2-1-1 or viewing the list that will be published online at 211ct.org.
