Dear Neighbor,
It has been an honor to work with and support the state's Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Community, including Southington resident and Connecticut Association of the Deaf President Luisa Gasco-Soboleski. This week, I joined Speaker of the House Matt Ritter, State Representative Jillian Gilchrest, and other advocates at a press conference where we spoke about legislation to establish a Bureau of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Services that will be charged with coordinating information, resources, assistance, and benefits for Connecticut residents. Special thanks to Amber Walsh, member of Southington's Commission for Persons with Disabilities for showing her support by attending the press conference.
The legislative action is recommended by the State Advisory Board Task Force on Needs Assessment of Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Persons. Prior to its closing in 2016, services for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing community were coordinated by the Commission for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. Since the commission's dissolution, services have been decentralized. |
