Dear Neighbor,

Earlier this month, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA was notified that the U.S. Senate passed a bill for 2024 that included $520,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for improvements at YMCA Camp Sloper

YMCA Camp Sloper is a source of community pride for Southington, so whenever I can help by securing funding at the state level or by connecting CEO Mark Pooler and his staff to federal funding opportunities, I am committed to collaborating with the YMCA because the organization and its programing strengthen the foundation of our community.

The YMCA intends to use these federally earmarked funds as part of the on-going capital campaign for improvements at YMCA Camp Sloper, specifically to build a new Camp Office and Infirmary.

This $520,000 federal award adds to the $500,000 in state funding that I helped secure in last year's state budget, which was used to complete the Sloper Pond dreading project. I remain committed and am proud to deliver for Southington and the organizations that define our town.

Celebrating
Southington's Business Community

This week I attended the 86th Annual Meeting of the Southington Chamber of Commerce, at which a number of Distinguished Business and Community Achievement Awards were presented. It was a pleasure to offer congratulations, alongside fellow legislators Sen. Rob Sampson and Rep. Gale Mastrofrancesco, by way of an official state citation that we presented to Ralph Campochiero who was honored as Southington’s Businessperson of the Year. Best wishes to Ralph and all of the other award recipients.

Manufacturing ConneCTion Fair

It was a very exciting day at the fifth annual Manufacturer ConneCTion Fair on Wednesday at the State Capitol especially because Team 195 - the CyberKnights entrusted me to drive their robot! At the fair, students from Southington High School and DePaolo and Kennedy Middle Schools had the opportunity to meet with Connecticut manufacturers and learn about the high-tech manufacturing pipeline leading to careers that are (and will be) essential to our economy. Before the end of their visit, we toured the House Chamber and we raised the Speaker’s gavel to declare the day Southington Day!

Upcoming Events

Join me at my next Legislative Q & A on April 10 at 1 p.m., at which I will share an overview on legislation impacting seniors. A special thanks to Blair Gianatti, local businesswoman and owner of Endless Sweets Bakery, for providing the cookies! This event is open to ALL Southington seniors, regardless of whether you are resident of Spring Lake Village.

On April 19 at 10 a.m., I am happy to announce that in partnership with the Southington Veterans Committee, we will welcome the Commissioner of Veteran and Military Affairs to the Calendar House for our annual Veterans Coffee Hour. At the event we will review current legislation and share resources that the State makes available to our Veterans.

Greek Independence Day

On Tuesday, I joined with my fellow Greek Americans and guests to commemorate the 203rd anniversary of the Greek Revolution and the founding of the Hellenic Republic. On Independence Day, not only do we celebrate the freedom of Greece, but also all that Greece has offered to the United States. Greece's contributions to American democracy are readily apparent in our government and were regularly cited by our founding fathers as inspirations.
