Dear Neighbor,

This week, I attended Southington’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities meeting, at which my good friend, town resident, and President of the Connecticut Association of the Deaf (CAD), Luisa Soboleski, presented to the Commission members, elected officials and a number of residents. Luisa shared her gratitude for and perspective on recent legislation that will provide the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing community access to a number of resources.

Through an interpreter, a number of deaf Southington residents shared their stories, and the Commission was able to ask questions and brainstorm how they can locally implement programs and provide services to supplement what is being done on the state level. It was a very positive meeting and I look forward to working with Luisa, her team at CAD, our local Commission, and other members of the Southington legislative delegation to ensure that members of Southington’s Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Community have the resources they need to live their lives with dignity.

Business After Hours Networking Event

I also attended the Southington Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours networking event at Liberty Bank. As always, it was great to catch up with local business owners and continue to learn more about what they do and how our community can support them. Fellow SHS Class of ’93 friend and Liberty Bank VP, Billy McDougall, along with Branch Manager Jason Rodriguez were gracious hosts. As a former teller at the old Southington Savings Bank, I appreciate the hometown approach to doing business that Liberty Bank offers to our residents and businesses.

Celebrating with Bread for Life

It was an honor to celebrate with Bread for Life at its 40th Anniversary breakfast on Tuesday, and then later at a gathering on the town green. Thank you to all involved in working to address food insecurity in our community, and congratulations to the Bread for Life team on this milestone accomplishment.

9/11 Remembrance in Plantsville

On Wednesday, I attended the annual September 11th ceremony in downtown Plantsville. I want to thank all of the residents who took the time to attend and pause to remember those who perished on that horrific day 23 years ago. While 9/11 was one of the worst days that America has endured, we also witnessed some of the bravest acts in our country's history. Let us never forget and forever honor the heroes and lives lost on 9/11.

ArrayRx Discussion with Comptroller Scanlon

State Comptroller Sean Scanlon will join me at The Calendar House on October 3 at 1 p.m. for an engaging discussion on ArrayRx, the state’s prescription drug discount program that launched last year. Since its launch, thousands of Connecticut residents have signed up and many prescriptions have been filled, which means big savings at the pharmacy counter.

ArrayRx is a user-friendly way for seniors and families to save money and tackle the high cost of health care. No one should have to decide between paying for essentials like rent or food and paying for the prescription they need to live.

For more information on how the ArrayRx discount card works, including a list of frequently asked questions and a drug price lookup tool, visit arrayrxcard.com.

I hope to see you at the event!
