$500 Million Emergency Relief Fund Proposal

November 10, 2025

On Wednesday, November 12, I will join my colleagues in the Connecticut House of Representatives for a special session to debate several important bills. One of the most vital measures will be approving state funds to offset federal budget cuts that already affect families, key programs, and essential services across Connecticut.

The House, and eventually the Senate, will vote on a proposal to set aside another $500 million for a federal emergency relief fund, ensuring that our state has a financial backstop to protect our residents. Under this bipartisan plan, the governor will recommend how to use those funds, with legislative leadership having input on any decisions.

These resources are designed to keep vital federal programs afloat such as SNAP, WIC, and LIHEAP if the federal government shutdown continues. This emergency measure will help bridge the gap until the General Assembly returns in February.

This proposal creates additional reserves, which is a fiscally responsible approach that makes sure Connecticut remains prepared and resilient during in a time of crisis. Together, we are standing up for the people of our state and protecting the services that so many rely on every day.
