We are working diligently to advance new policies but not before hearing your passionate testimony. Please read below to learn how we're trying to protect our elections and deter ICE agents from potentially intimidating eligible voters.

I am excited to serve in a new role with a national group of Hispanic lawmakers. I'll break down what legislation I'll be working on to support Latino communities.

Bill Aims To Prevent Voter Intimidation

My colleagues and I are proposing a bill to prevent voter intimidation and ensure people feel safe casting a ballot without the presence of armed federal agents or immigration enforcement. The proposal comes after the Trump administration said it wants to "nationalize" elections and for ICE agents to have a presence at voting places later this year.

House Bill 5533 would bar federal law enforcement within 250 feet of a polling place without permission from state election officials or a court order. The measure would also establish state penalties for violations to ensure protections are taken seriously
Free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy. This legislation aims to prevent interference from anyone, including the federal government, and helps insure that people will have their voice heard.

New Role with National Hispanic Legislators

I am excited and proud to share that I am now serving as Vice-Chair of the Energy, Infrastructure and Environment Task Force for the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL). As a strong advocate for Environmental Justice, I look forward to working with fellow Latino lawmakers from across the country to develop policies and draft resolutions that support and uplift our communities.

I am grateful to the NHCSL,including President Rep. Juan Candelaria of New Haven, for the opportunity to serve in this leadership role. It has been an honor to be a member of the caucus for the past 10 years and to contribute in a variety of positions during that time. I'm proud to continue advancing issues that matter to Latino communities nationwide.
