The Puerto Rican community and travelers alike are celebrating the latest direct flight from Connecticut to Puerto Rico. Last week, Tweed-New Haven Airport launched service to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan. I had the pleasure of joining some of my colleagues on the inaugural flight to the Island of Enchantment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once we landed in San Juan, there was another celebration waiting for us! Puerto Rico Secretary of State Omar Marrero Díaz and other dignitaries welcomed us with open arms.

We all recognize this new route is an opportunity to connect the roughly 300,000 Puerto Ricans living in Connecticut to their families on La Isla. This new route is convenient for all of us in Waterbury because Tweed-New Haven is closer than Bradley International Airport. A shorter car and plane ride will connect us more easily with our loved ones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

San Juan is Avelo’s first destination outside the continental United States. The airline celebrated the start of this new route with a Puerto Rico-themed ceremony at Tweed Airport with a backdrop of Connecticut and Puerto Rican flags as well as red, white, and blue balloons. Flights to San Juan take off on Wednesdays and Saturdays for as low as $99 one-way.
