Waterbury Hospital Remains Open

January 16, 2025
Even though the company that owns Waterbury Hospital has filed for bankruptcy protection, I assure you the hospital is open to patients, ready to serve the community, and will not close. The state is making sure that Prospect Medical Holdings continues to provide safe and high quality healthcare while paying its employees at Waterbury, Manchester Memorial, and Rockville General Hospitals.
Waterbury Hospital is a cornerstone of our community, providing essential services, contributing to the well-being of countless patients, and supporting hundreds of local jobs. The hospital serves Waterbury and nearly a dozen surrounding communities, totaling about 400,000 people in the region. This is why we must explore every solution and remain steadfast in our commitments to the future of the facility, even in the face of this recent bankruptcy filing.
I would like to thank Governor Ned Lamont, Attorney General William Tong, and the various state agencies who are working collaboratively to ensure that Prospect Medical Holdings will be held accountable. The state will not hesitate to take legal action if necessary, during these challenging times. I am hopeful that our state leadership team will do everything possible to ensure that Waterbury Hospital will continue to provide excellent care and be a safe place for patients.
