You Can Apply Now For Home Energy Assistance

September 8, 2025

You can apply now for emergency home energy assistance before the weather gets bitterly cold. In this email, I will let you know how much time eligible households have left to submit an application.

I was proud to participate in an event showcasing the best of Waterbury as the community supported those in need of dignity and well-being. Please keep scrolling to see pictures from a meaningful self-care gathering.

Apply Now For Home Energy Assistance

Higher energy bills are a challenge for everyone, but you can get some help! The Generation Power CT (GPCT) Emergency Energy Assistance Program, formerly known as Operation Fuel, is accepting applications through Wednesday, September 10!

This program provides a one-time grant of up to $500 toward a future fuel delivery or a past-due utility bill to eligible Connecticut individuals and families making up to 75% SMI gross household income.

For the best chance of approval, and to make full use of this once-per-12-months grant, GPCT strongly encourages households to apply for assistance when you are most in need.

There are four Energy Assistance Application Cycles:

  • September 2-10, 2025
  • November 2-10, 2025
  • January 2-10, 2026
  • March 2-10 , 2026

Community Self-Care Event

It was a true privilege to witness our community come together in such a meaningful way at a self-care event in Waterbury. This incredible gathering, organized by Christina Som and the Women's Inspirational Network along with the Lambda Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, was all about lifting people up and ensuring that everyone has access to the essentials that support dignity and well-being.

From donations of soap, aftershave, toothbrushes, deodorant, facial wipes to so many other items, the event was a powerful reminder of what happens when compassion meets action. It was about creating a space of care, connection, and encouragement for those who need it most.

Events like this show the very best of Waterbury. Neighbors helping neighbors, organizations joining forces, and a community committed to making sure no one is left behind.

Celebrating the Romanian Language & Moldova

I had the honor of attending a vibrant celebration of the Romanian language and Moldova's independence at the Capitol. Linguistically and culturally, Moldovans and Romanians share the same official language and heritage, reinforcing close ties between the two countries.

Since Romanian is a romance language, the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus consider our friends in Europe our "Latin cousins in the East." Romanians and Moldovans are a fabric of the community across Connecticut, and I thank them for their incredible contributions and innovation across the state.
