Changes To Medicare Savings Delayed

December 11, 2017

For those of you impacted by the changes to the Medicare Savings program, there is good news. The state Department of Social Services has announced that it will delay the scheduled Jan. 1 implementation of income eligibility reductions in the Medicare Savings Programs, as a result of concerns raised by beneficiaries, advocates and legislators.

The delay will last at least two months so the legislature and state officials can come up with an acceptable plan to reduce the impact on seniors.

Those who are potentially affected by the lower income eligibility levels are encouraged to call the CHOICES program for health insurance assistance provided by the state Department on Aging at 800-994-8422.

Even with the delay in implementation, I advise calling sooner rather than later to discuss and decide on your options.
