Representative Rojas Hails Bonding Commission Approval of Public Health, Municipal Aid

April 16, 2020

State Representative Jason Rojas D-East Hartford/Manchester), House Chairperson of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and member of the State Bond Commission, voted to approve all the items on today's commission agenda.

Today’s agenda included funding for a number of critically important capital projects relating to transportation, clean water, local town and city projects, as well as $5 million for the state's efforts toward mitigating the Covid-19 pandemic.

“While Covid-19 has upended much of our day-to-day lives, I'm focused on additional opportunities to support our agencies and local governments on the frontlines of this crisis,” Rep. Rojas said.

Rep. Rojas also noted an increase of $16 million for the Grants for Municipal Projects program that helps to support towns that lost revenue due to the presence of tax-exempt manufacturing machinery and equipment. The additional dollars are being distributed to towns and cities that have double the statewide average of this equipment.

“I proposed the increase because of the significant presence of tax-exempt machinery in East Hartford and Manchester," said Rep. Rojas. "Both communities are proud to be home to a large number of the state’s most important manufactures including Pratt and Whitney and the many companies that make up its supply chain. Both towns will receive a significant increase in funding under my proposal totaling $1.8 million for East Hartford and approximately $433,648 for Manchester. I'm grateful to Governor Lamont and OPM Secretary McCaw for their support on this critically needed funding.”

Rep. Rojas was also proud to advocate for and support $30 million for Town Aid Road and $31.5 million for the Capital Resurfacing Program that ensues that state owned road in communities across Connecticut are maintained and improved. The Town Aid Road program supports local government highway and bridge construction; improvement or maintenance; tree trimming and removal; and other traffic safety and planning purposes.
