Sales Tax-Free Week on Clothing is Back
August 7, 2024Connecticut's annual summer Sales Tax-Free Week on clothing is back, and this year it runs from Sunday August 18 through Saturday August 24.
Started by the legislature over two decades ago as a way to help families with back-to-to-school shopping needs, the state's Sales Tax-Free Week offers everyone a chance to save money on new clothing and footwear.
During the tax holiday, most clothing and footwear items priced less than $100 are exempt from Connecticut's 6.35% sales tax. The exemption applies to each eligible item costing less than $100, regardless of how many of those items are bought.
Also, many retailers throughout the state offer additional discounts on clothing and footwear as an extra marketing incentive during Sales Tax-Free Week, providing consumers with even more ways to save.
The tax-free discount applies to purchases made in-store, online, or over the phone.

We encourage everyone to take advantage of the savings later this month, and shop locally whenever possible to support our small businesses.
