June 12, 2024
I am hosting the First Family Resource Fair in Hartford on Saturday. Please read below to learn how this event supports folks who need financial help or access to vital programs.
Last week marked 80 years since our heroes stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. I had the opportunity to meet an amazing veteran who served in World War II and our community after his military retirement. He also just celebrated his 105th birthday. Keep scrolling to learn more about Col. Morton Katz's life.

Officials from hospitals, state agencies, and other organizations will share critical information that can help individuals and families. Some of my colleagues will serve food as we listen to music in a relaxed atmosphere.

Honoring WWII Veterans & Colonel M. Katz
It was an honor to recognize World War II veteran Colonel Morton Katz in Hartford 80 years after our heroes stormed the beach of Normandy on D-Day. Mr. Katz, who is celebrating his 105th birthday, was part of a paratrooper unit that went up through Italy and into France. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate one of the Nazi concentration camps in Germany. He embodies bravery, sacrifice, and heroism and is an inspiration for everyone in the community.
Upon his military retirement, Mr. Katz spent more than 20 years as a public defender in Connecticut and worked passed his 100th birthday. He also did free work for Statewide Legal Services and provided free assistance to veterans. He loved helping the community, supporting clients, and doing the right thing for them.
Thanking Mr. Katz for his military service, public service, and for being such a commendable role model. I am grateful for his work and his entire family.
I would also like to thank Michael Riley for reaching out and making us aware of Mr. Katz's birthday and incredible service to our country.
Caribbean American Heritage Month
June is Caribbean American Heritage Month, which is a time to recognize Caribbean contributions to American history, life, and culture. We celebrate the achievements of the millions of people of Caribbean origin now living in the United States while honoring the shared history of joy and perseverance that has united and enriched life across our region for centuries.
Hartford is home to various Caribbean restaurants, businesses, and neighborhoods. They are a fabric of our community and contribute significantly to the rich cultural tapestry of our city. With their vibrant flavors, lively music, and warm hospitality, Caribbean locals enrich our city every day.
Legislative Town Hall Postponed
The West Hartford Delegation has postponed our end of session wrap-up to a future date. We were planning to share which bills we passed into law and to field some of your questions.
I will let you know when we reschedule the event once I have more information.
