Updates from State Rep. Farley Santos for April 17, 2026

April 17, 2026

Between pushing Danbury’s economy forward and late-night budget ad-hocs, one thing is clear, we’re moving Danbury forward responsibly. And this budget didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of serious work, smart planning, and a team that’s focused on delivering for our city.

Credit to Mayor Roberto Alves, the office team, our finance team, and every department head putting in the hours behind the scenes.
If you know me, you know I’m fiscally conservative. And this budget hits the mark.

  • Just a 1.5% increase
  • Lower than every surrounding municipalities and many across the state
  • About $0.25/day for residents

And here’s what that delivers:

  • 5 additional police officers
  • Staffing for a new firehouse
  • More road paving than ever before
  • A truly fully funded Board of Education, no gimmicks like in past administrations
  • Strong, consistent city services

All in a year where inflation is over 2.4%.

This is what responsible government looks like investing in what matters while respecting taxpayers.

And let’s be real, so far there has been unanimous and bipartisan support from the Council.

That says a lot.

I know politics will soon play a role, but I appreciate the fact that so far there’s been unanimous agreement that Mayor Alves’ proposal is best for Danbury!

Transparency and Saving Money

Right now, we’re REQUIRED to print public notices in a local newspaper with about 1,000 daily subscribers costing Danbury taxpayers over $100,000 a year. It's busiest day is Sunday with only has 1116 Danbury subscribers.

One ordinance alone? Over $6,000.

Meanwhile, the City of Danbury website gets 15,000 visits a month (182K a year).

This bill simply moves notices online where more people actually see them while saving taxpayers money and still allows for shorter print publications.

This is about access, transparency, and being smart with your dollars.

Now let’s get it through the Senate.

Eggs & Issues with the Governor

Early morning. Real conversations. Real impact.

Connecting with Danbury’s business leaders at the Chamber’s Eggs & Issues Breakfast with Governor Ned Lamont and sitting next to Rep. Jahana Hayes talking growth, opportunity, and what’s next for our city.

Big things are happening in Danbury’s economy and we’re just getting started. So proud to do this work!

Danbury: One of the Best Places to Live

I’m incredibly proud of our community and the hard work we’re putting in to make Danbury even better for everyone. Let’s keep building a city where we all thrive together!

Court House Pickle + Golf Coming Soon

Early morning meeting and something cool is coming to Danbury!

Court House Pickle + Golf is on the way bringing new energy, new activities, and another reason to get out and enjoy our city.

Check out what’s coming: www.courthousesports.com

This is how we keep building — more jobs, more foot traffic for local businesses, and more for residents to do right here at home. Proud to be part of the work moving Danbury forward with Mayor Roberto Alves.

Support the Carnival

The carnival is here!

Please support the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department's Carnival this weekend and next!

Come on out and have a great time with your family, we can’t wait to see you all: April 16-19 and April 23-26

Downtown Connections

One of the best parts of this job?

Getting out, walking our downtown, and connecting with the people who make Danbury what it is.

This week we checked in on the progress happening across downtown and spent time talking with our local business owners, the backbone of our community.

There’s real momentum building. Projects moving. Businesses growing. Energy you can feel. And trust me, we’re just getting started.

Proud to be doing this work for the people of Danbury.

Torre Fuerte Cafe No. 2

Congrats to Cirilo Rodriguez on opening a second Torre Fuerte Cafe right here in Danbury’s 109th District. Local business growth, new jobs, and even better — phenomenal food. Go check them out at 60 Newtown Road.

Harmony House Ribbon Cutting

This week we also cut the ribbon on Harmony House with Family & Children's Aid, creating a space where families can stay together, find stability, and get a real shot at moving forward.

This is bigger than a building. It’s about dignity, opportunity, and making sure no family in our community is left behind.

Grateful to Housing Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno for her partnership, and to Kevin McNellis, CEO of Family & Children’s Aid, who does so much for our community day in and day out.

Proud to stand alongside my friend, former Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary, whose commitment to empowering people and strengthening communities never wavers. Always good to see my friend Rev. Dr. Chris Williams representing New Hope Baptist Church: Danbury, CT so ably.

When we invest in people, we change lives. That’s how we build a stronger Danbury.

Tarrywile Park Grant

Congratulations to the Friends of Tarrywile Park on receiving a grant to restore the park!

Spring = Baseball

Spring means baseball is back! Caught a few innings of DHS baseball, high energy, all heart, all game.

Tough loss, but these guys battled.

Big shoutout to Coach Williams, Coach Arconti, and everyone grinding for this team.

Show up and support, these boys are leaving it all on the field.

We All Scream for Ice Cream

Summer like spring days call for ice cream and Khloë approves. Thanks, Mayor Roberto Alves for taking us to Dubl Twister!

Daddy-Daughter Day

A perfect Danbury night.

Beatles hits live at the First Congregational Church — the Lumos Experiences instrumental was awesome.

Dinner at Cafe on the Green, Khloë’s pick, which means it was the right pick!
You don’t have to go far to have a great night and create lasting memories!

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
