With a blast of arctic air expected to blanket Connecticut over the next several days, the state's severe cold weather protocol is in effect through Tuesday, Dec. 9, at noon.

Low temperatures over the next few days will dip into the single digits, with wind chills close to zero at times.

Holiday Lights Contest

Let’s spread some holiday cheer with this fun community competition. Kudos to Mayor Roberto Alves and Councilman John Laughinghouse for this creative idea! Details below.

NFCAR Humanitarian Award

It was an honor to present a state citation to April Furey, this year’s Norther Fairfield County Realtors Association’s Joe Baker Humanitarian Award recipient! April is always the first to step up and support others, her service truly reflects the best in community.

Congratulations to outgoing President Jean Flynn on an outstanding year, and welcome to incoming President Daniel Mulvihill — great things ahead!

I'm grateful for our local realtors whose work strengthens neighborhoods and boosts our local economy.

WCSU Walk and Talk

Western Connecticut State University is one of Danbury’s greatest assets. Enrollment is up 10% for two years straight and applications for next year are looking strong. It’s a vital institution for higher learning for our local youth.

On Tuesday, I joined Chancellor Dr. Maduko and President Dr. Bernal for a campus tour to talk with students and focus on areas where the we can help WCSU continue to grow. With smart investments, we can ensure that they continue empowering our local workforce and shaping Danbury’s future.

Schools of Distinction

I couldn’t be prouder! Four Danbury public schools, Great Plain Elementary, King Street Primary, South Street Elementary, and Western CT Academy Elementary Magnet, have been named “Schools of Distinction” by the Connecticut State Department of Education for 2025. This honor recognizes academic excellence, strong growth, and dedication to student success across the board.

All the credit goes to our school administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families for their hard work and dedication. Danbury’s building the future together!

Hidden Gem in Danbury

I have to admit, after a lifetime of driving past Karl Ehmer Deli & Quality Meat Products on Federal Road, I finally stopped in … and wow, what a hidden gem!

Mayor Alves and I had a chance to meet the owner, Gabbi, and I was blown away by how clean, organized, and absolutely delicious everything looked. The mayor bought some meats, and I couldn’t resist taking home a chocolate cheese babka.

From classic German, Polish, and Hungarian favorites to fresh made-to-order sandwiches, this family-owned spot has so much to offer. It’s been part of our community for decades, let’s keep supporting the local businesses that make Danbury special! Go check them out at 6 Federal Road!

Holiday Events in Danbury

Light the Lights - Winter Festival takes place this Saturday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Danbury CityCenter Green (1 Ives St.).

This free event features the lighting of the holiday tree, a fire truck parade, vendors, and entertainment.

As always, please reach out to my office if you have any comments, questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
