Updates from State Rep. Farley Santos for June 20, 2025

June 20, 2025

Due to an anticipated stretch of high temperatures, the state is activating its Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, effective at noon on Sunday, June 22. The protocol will remain in effect through at least 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.

This is the first time this year that the protocol is being activated. The current forecast calls for temperatures to exceed 90 degrees over this period, with a heat index that could range from between 100 to 105 degrees.

The purpose of activating the protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the hot conditions. While enacted, a system is set up for state agencies, municipalities, and other partners to coordinate with United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location for those in need of relief.

Cooling centers will be available throughout the state. Anyone in need of a place to get out of the heat can locate their nearest cooling center by calling 2-1-1 or viewing the list that will be published online at 211ct.org.

Commemorating Juneteenth

We gathered at the Medgar Evers Tree in Rogers Park to honor Juneteenth, a powerful reminder of freedom delayed, but not denied. Thank you to the Danbury Juneteenth Coalition and everyone who came out to stand in solidarity and remembrance.

As we commemorate, we also recommit to telling the full unvarnished story because we cannot allow anyone to whitewash the truth of what happened or the work that remains.

Congratulations Abbott Tech Grads!

I had the honor of standing on stage at Abbott Tech just as proud of the Class of 2025 as I was the day I graduated from this great school.

I asked the students to give their parents, families, and friends a round of applause because it was a day of accomplishment for them as much as it was for each graduate.

And I left the students with the same words I shared at my own graduation: Wherever you go, whatever you do — be proud, be privileged, and be honored to say you are a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical High School!

It was great to see one of my Sunday School students and this year’s LJVS Memorial Scholarship recipient receiving their diplomas. God bless each and every one of you on this exciting new journey!

Celebrating ShopRite

The Cingari Family Markets took a grocery store I used to ride my bike to as a kid while growing up on Balmforth Avenue and gave it new life, creating a beautiful, welcoming space that brings back that old-school neighborhood market feel where customer service comes first.

It’s been a pleasure working with the family as they made this major investment in our city, and I’m excited to continue collaborating on future projects.

If you haven’t seen it yet, stop by the newly renovated ShopRite on Padanaram Road and check out the fresh new look!

Danbury Police Awards Dinner

Honored to attend the Danbury Police Department’s Annual Awards Dinner surrounded by incredible bravery, courage, and an unwavering commitment to our community. I’m deeply grateful for every officer who puts on the badge to protect and serve our city.

A special shoutout to Detective Travis Webber, a proud fellow Abbott Tech graduate, who stands among this elite team of heroes. To the families who share in these sacrifices and carry the weight of worry so we can rest easy, thank you isn’t enough.

I’ll always have their back!

Abbott Tech Scholarship

I had the honor of presenting a scholarship to Aidan M., this year’s recipient from Henry Abbott Technical High School. Below is a brief synopsis of this amazing young man:

Landon Jack Verissimo Santos Memorial Scholarship, Inc

“The first 2025 scholarship recipient is Aidan M. from Henry Abbott Technical High School. Aidan M. is an inspiring example of resilience and determination. Despite facing significant challenges in his young life, he excelled academically throughout high school, never earning a grade lower than an 88. A dedicated student in the school’s graphics shop, Aidan combined his creative skills with a commitment to service. In his scholarship essay, he reflected on the importance of giving back, noting that volunteerism isn’t as common as it once was — a reality he hopes to help change through his continued involvement in the LEO Club and other community service efforts.
Aidan’s drive to make a difference is matched by his academic ambition, as he prepares to attend Pace University to pursue a degree in Game Development. We have no doubt that Aidan will excel in whatever path he chooses, and he will help us continue building a legacy of love for Landon through his kindness, compassion, and service to others.”

Communities First Luncheon

I attended the Connecticut Institute for Communities "Community First Luncheon" last week, where supporters from across Danbury came together to uplift this incredible organization.

It was an honor to see Dr. Robert Bedoukian posthumously receive the Jim Maloney Community Impact Award. I’ve had the privilege of honoring Dr. Bedoukian before, his humility, kindness, and deep care for this community set an example for us all.

A special highlight was the announcement of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America expansion into the Danbury Community Center, creating the Danbury Clubhouse. This is an important step in bringing more resources, mentoring, and safe spaces to our city’s youth. Proud to be part of it.

Always good to see my predecessor, Former 109 State Rep. Lew Wallace!

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
