Updates from State Rep. Farley Santos for May 9, 2025

May 9, 2025

Another couple of Session Days at the Capitol this week, where we took up several key bills — including SB 1426, which provides important updates to the Firefighters Cancer Relief Program we passed a few years ago.

This bill, which passed without a dissenting vote, will expand coverage to include skin cancer and other critical conditions, providing our firefighters with the support and protection they deserve. Please click here to watch a video of my comments on the matter.

I’m also incredibly proud of the contract Mayor Roberto Alves successfully negotiated with our firefighters — their first in 12 years. It’s a long overdue, fair agreement that recognizes their service and sacrifices.

Proud to stand behind this legislation and alongside the hardworking members of Danbury Professional Fire Fighters, Local 801, IAFF, today and every day!

Worker Protections

House Democrats took action on Wednesday in passing legislation that limits when warehouse employers use production quotas.

The legislation also ensures that:

  • Employers must provide quota information upon hiring an employee
  • If quotas change, workers must be notified
  • Employees cannot be retaliated against for requesting work records
  • Quotas cannot be used to inhibit workers from using the restroom or taking an entitled break

Valuing people over profits is always good public policy.

Giving Circle Breakfast

Tuesday morning’s Regional Hospice Giving Circle Breakfast was extra special. Supporting this amazing organization is personal to me, and I’m so grateful for all they do.

Big love to ToniAnn, who leads with such heart, and to Jen, Lisa, and the entire team, your work is truly phenomenal.

Congrats to the It Takes a Village honorees: Mayor Roberto Alves & the City of Danbury, Ives Bank, Union Savings Bank, and Trader Joe's, thank you for your incredible support.

Honoring Steve Greenberg

This morning, I had the privilege of attending a Newtown Savings Bank event honoring the life, partnerships, and incredible legacy of Steve Greenberg.

Realtors, attorneys, colleagues, and dear friends gathered to remember a man who made an unforgettable impact on everyone he met. Lorena Barreto and James Philipakos spoke so beautifully about Steve’s kindness, generosity, and the genuine care he showed to those around him. Special thank you to Ken Weinstein, President and CEO of NSB for hosting this event.

Our community was better because of Steve’s giving heart, and his absence is deeply felt. I miss his supportive texts and uplifting comments — and I know I’m not alone in that.

Here’s to celebrating a life well-lived and the love he left behind in all of us.

Thank You, Ana!

Since Day One of my first term, Ana has been a dedicated force as my Legislative Aide/Constituent Engagement Coordinator. Her hard work and heart for service have made a real difference for the residents of the 109th. As she moves on to pursue important advocacy work, I’m incredibly grateful for all she’s done, wishing her nothing but success on this next chapter!

Happy Birthday, Mary!

Happy 90th Birthday to the wonderful Mary Cappiello!

Mayor Roberto Alves, Robyn, State Sen. Julie Kushner, and I were honored to be part of this beautiful celebration for such a kind and giving member of our Danbury community.

Wishing Mary many more joyful years of health, happiness, and cherished moments surrounded by those who love her!

St. Peter's School: 140 Years Strong

Congratulations to St. Peter School on 140 amazing years! So many memories, lessons, and friendships have been made within those walls. It was a joy to be part of the reunion festivities and to celebrate a school that’s been shaping Danbury’s youth for generations!

Batter Up!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there to celebrate the dedication of the Coach Gary Simone Batting Cages! No one deserves this honor more than my friend, Coach/Councilman Gary Simone. Thank you for everything you do for Danbury’s youth — you’re a true Danbury legend.

Invention Convention

Proud Dad Moment: Last weekend I spent the day with my little girl at UConn for the CT Invention Convention State Finals. Khloë placed as a finalist. Mom and I couldn’t be prouder. She might’ve even caught a little Husky fever after soaking up the campus vibes … already talking about becoming a Husky someday, and we’re all in!

It was incredible to see the talent, creativity, and bright minds of these young inventors, so much hope for the future in that room.

Also great catching up with Connecticut's Chief Manufacturing Officer Paul Lavoie, who delivered inspiring words to the kids and continues to do outstanding work for our state.

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
