Updates for State Rep. Farley Santos for Nov. 21, 2025

November 21, 2025

Only in America.

Only in America can a former undocumented kid who arrived at age 5 grow up to become the Mayor of the city he loves, the only city he has ever truly known.

And only in America can another former undocumented kid who arrived at age 7 grow up to become a State Representative and have the honor of serving as Master of Ceremonies for that Mayor’s second swearing-in.

We are truly blessed.

It was a great evening celebrating a successful campaign and the start of a new term grounded in hope, compassion, and progress under the leadership of my brother, Mayor Roberto Alves.

Congratulations to all of our elected officials, and a heartfelt thank you to the families who support their service. Being a public servant is a calling and I’m proud of every dedicated official who answered that call for the right reasons and worked so hard to get here.

Beam Signing for Ives Bank HQ

I was proud to take part in this week's beam signing for the new Ives Bank headquarters rising at the corner of Main and White.

I spent 16 years of my career at Ives Bank, and I’m forever grateful for the opportunities I was given by Martin Morgado and every manager and supervisor who supported me along the way. Serving as Vice President, Community Development Manager, and Bank Ambassador remains one of the true highlights of my professional life.

This new headquarters is more than a building, it’s an investment in the heart of our downtown, bringing new jobs and new energy to our city’s core. I’m proud to continue serving as a Bank Corporator and to play a small role in getting this project off the ground.

Good Scout Awards

I was happy to once again attend the BSA Good Scout Awards and to celebrate an incredible group of leaders who embody service to our community.

Congratulations to Mr. George Mulvaney, whose quiet philanthropy and countless good deeds have strengthened our region for years. His story of perseverance and survival is truly inspiring.

Proud as well to recognize Maura Ruby, who I work closely with in business development; Marie Miszewski, a determined and passionate advocate for child care; and Dr. John Murphy, the long time leader of the Nuvance Health system.

Great to see so many young people energized by scouting, learning leadership, responsibility, and the values that will carry them far in life.

Athletic Achievements

Congratulations to two outstanding Danbury high school teams!

Last weekend, the Immaculate High School Mustangs field hockey team captured the CIAC Class S State Championship, showcasing incredible talent, grit, and teamwork.

And the Danbury High School football team is headed to the playoffs for the first time in 22 years after a dominant 54–7 win over Westhill.

So proud of these student-athletes, their coaches, and the entire community cheering them on!

John Bailey Dinner

I attended the 75th John Bailey Dinner with keynote speaker Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who reminded us that voters care most about real, kitchen-table issues and common-sense leadership.

That focus is why our party flipped 29 towns in Connecticut and why Mayor Roberto Alves continues to inspire us with empathetic, honest leadership that delivers for our residents.

Proud to be part of a team leading with heart. Great to see so many friends from across the state.

Standing with Jamaica

Our community came together last night for a touching vigil in solidarity with Jamaica following the recent hurricane that claimed 45 lives and devastated the island.

More than 240,000 people remain without power, and our community is uniting to support them through local donation efforts.

We prayed for everyone impacted by Hurricane Melissa and raised the Jamaican flag at Heritage Square with pride and solidarity.

Garden Club's Holiday Luncheon

The Danbury Garden Club continued its 100-year celebration this week with a holiday luncheon.

Mayor Roberto Alves issued a citation to Oscar Fuller, husband of Garden Club member Judi Fuller, for Oscar's years of support to the club.

Thank you to the Danbury Garden Club for a century of beautifying our city and inspiring creativity in our community.

Energy Assistance

While the $500 million emergency fund plans to cover the lack of funding for the national Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), there are other state resources available now.

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program and Eversource offer resources for those in need to help to cover the cost of their home energy bills this winter. Visit ct.gov/dss or the Eversource website for more information.

Free Concert

The Danbury Community Orchestra will present a free program on Friday, Nov. 21, at Broadview Middle School, 72 Hospital Ave., at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the door.

Light the Lights-Winter Festival

The City, in partnership with CityCenter Danbury, is hosting the annual “Light the Lights-Winter Festival” on the Green (1 Ives St.) on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Enjoy Downtown Danbury’s 40-foot holiday tree, among other attractions including a truck parade.

Mayor Roberto Alves will do the official “light up” of downtown, and Santa will arrive by fire truck.

Come out and enjoy some holiday shopping from various vendors.

The Salvation Army will be on hand to hand out hot chocolate, cookies, and soup.

As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please reach out to my office.

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
