Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday! Spring is officially here - warmer weather and longer days are right around the corner.

My colleagues and I are still working diligently in our respective committees and are making sure bills are ready for the next part of the legislative process.

Great news! Milford and Orange were both named on the 2025 Best Places to Live in Connecticut. The list, created by Niche, ranked Orange at 25 and Milford at 32. Click here to learn more.

Please see below to see what I've been up to in Hartford and in the 117th district!

Around the 117th District

The University of New Haven and the City of West Haven have established a new partnership that will make higher education more affordable for first responders and local high school graduates. Beginning in the upcoming Fall semester, every firefighter, 9-1-1 dispatcher and police officer who is interested in pursuing a bachelors or masters degree at UNH can attend at no cost - the university will provide a 100% scholarship to all who are eligible. Additionally, graduating high school seniors in West Haven will receive a 50% scholarship to the school.

This partnership will erase one of the biggest hurdles to higher education - cost. An educated community is a stronger community. Click here to learn more.

Earlier this week, I attended an event that celebrated Purple Pantry’s 5th birthday! Purple Pantry is a volunteer-powered organization that provides food to those in need. There are 17 pantries in the Milford area that are restocked daily.

A huge thank you to Sue Brown for your dedication to our community and for working to make sure everyone has access to food when they need it. Your work makes a real difference!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Coffee and Conversation event with Senator Maroney, Representative Welander and me! It is always great to have meaningful conversations with individuals in the community.

I spent last Saturday attending events that celebrated our local first responders!

I started at the Post Road Cup, where the Milford PD took on the West Haven PD—congrats to West Haven on their 6-2 win!

Then, I joined the Orange Volunteer Fire Department for their 100th Anniversary Dinner Dance, honoring a century of service and dedication. Thank you to all who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe!

Finally, I had the opportunity to tour Milestones Behavioral Services with Rep. Leeper and Rep. Kennedy. This organization is dedicated to empowering children with special needs by providing them with the specialized support and resources they need to thrive. A big thank you to the passionate administrators and staff for welcoming us and giving us a firsthand look at the life-changing work you do every day!

Don’t forget about next week’s public hearings!

You need to register if you wish to provide testimony but that isn’t necessary if you want to observe the hearings. Tune in and watch them live on the committee’s YouTube channel.

Here is a look at this week’s schedule, including the bills that will be heard, in this week’s  CGA Bulletin

Last week, I attended a press conference concerning climate and business policy. I spoke about two B Corp organizations that are based in the 117th district - Athletic Brewing Company, the world's largest non-alcoholic brewery, and Bigelow Tea, which has a warehouse in Milford. I commend both companies for their commitment to sustainability and renewable energy.
