Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday! Earth Day was April 22. On this day we’re not just celebrating our planet - we’re taking action to protect it. From expanding clean energy to investing in climate resilience, Connecticut is committed to a sustainable future for all.

On Tuesday, I co-hosted a climate change forum at the University of New Haven.  Please see below to learn more about that event, as well as what else I've been up to in Hartford and in the 117th district!

In the 117th District

On Tuesday,  Environment Committee Co-Chair Rep. John Michael Parker and I held a climate change forum at the University of New Haven. The purpose of this event was to discuss the various ways young people can get involved and push for legislation that will protect our planet.

Rep. Parker and I were able to check out some incredible student research, and we talked about current environmental legislation that is being debated at the Capitol. I always love connecting with students in our community and hearing their ideas, especially on issues that impact their future. Thank you to everyone who attended!

At the Capitol

Last week, I stood with Lt. Governor Bysiewicz and reproductive rights advocates to speak out against dangerous federal cuts to Title X funding. Over 41,000 Connecticut residents rely on these funds for essential reproductive healthcare—like cancer screenings, birth control, and STI/STD testing.

Early diagnosis saves lives. These cuts put people at risk, especially those who already face barriers to care. I’m proud to stand in solidarity with healthcare providers and patients because everyone, regardless of income, deserves access to medical care.

This week, the Appropriations Committee and the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee passed the proposed state budget, revenue package, and bonding package—and I’m glad to see they reflect strong investments in the things that matter most to our communities.

The budget includes funding for housing, education, and social services, which are all critical to supporting families and building a stronger, more equitable Connecticut. The revenue package includes a $150 per child tax credit to help ease the financial burden on families, and the bonding package includes funding for the District Repair and Improvement Project (DRIP) Program, which will help schools make long-needed repairs and upgrades.

These are meaningful steps that invest in our kids, our communities, and our future.

Coming up at the Capitol! The House will be back in session next week. Stay tuned for key updates, votes, and what’s on the legislative agenda.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Saturday, April 26th is Prescription Drug Take Back Day - a national event that provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications… no questions asked.

It’s not just convenient — it keeps our community safe in so many ways:

  •  Prevents misuse of medications. Unused meds can be dangerous if taken by the wrong person.
  • Protects kids and families by reducing accidental poisonings and drug exposure at home.
  • Keeps our water and environment clean. Flushing or tossing meds can harm ecosystems.
  • Reduces risk of addiction and overdose by limiting access to potentially addictive substances.
  • Offers safe and anonymous disposal. Handled by professionals — no judgment, no hassle.

There will be several collection events in our district:

  • West Haven
    • West Haven Police Department (200 Saw Mill Rd, West Haven, CT 06516)
    • VA Hospital (950 Campbell Ave, West Haven, CT 06516)
  • Orange
    • High Planes Community Center (525 Orange Center Rd, Orange, CT 06477)
  • Milford
    • Milford Senior Center (9 Jepson Dr, Milford, CT 06460)

The collection sites will be open from 10 AM - 2 PM. Click here to learn more.
