Supporting Newington Rail
We have already seen the massive success in ridership since the start of the Hartford Line. Expanding its stops to Newington will give immediate access to thousands of more people to utilize a mass transit system, which will provide relief from traffic on our roads, reduce pollution, and increase the quality of life for area residents. The potential economic development opportunities could result in hundreds of new businesses, thousands of new jobs, millions in new revenue, and a smart, green, mixed-use transit oriented development zone that will attract the educated and trained workforce our state needs to succeed in the 21st Century.
The current Hartford Rail Commuter Line runs through Newington and the Department of Transportation has studied and located a suitable location for the construction of a new station at 565 Cedar Street.
The potential location is near a CTfastrak stop, Route 9 freeway, and Central Connecticut State University. The site also surrounds over 40 acres of developable land with additional potential for development within the vicinity for a total of over 100 acres.
