Updates from State Rep. Gary Turco for March 20, 2026

March 20, 2026

It was great joining the School Meals for All Coalition and End Hunger CT at the Capitol for School Meal Advocacy Day.

We heard powerful stories from students and advocates during the press conference, reminding us why this work matters so much.

I was also proud to participate in a panel discussion focused on ensuring every child has access to nutritious, free school meals.

No child should have to learn on an empty stomach. Making sure students are fed is one of the most important investments we can make in their success—both in the classroom and beyond.

I’ll continue fighting to expand access to free school meals so every child in Connecticut has the opportunity to thrive.

Talking Social Media Reform on NPR

I spoke with "Where We Live" host Catherine Shen to discuss House Bill 5037, legislation I’m leading to help protect minors from some of the harms of social media use.

This effort is being advanced in partnership with Governor Ned Lamont, Attorney General William Tong, and the bipartisan leadership of the General Law Committee as we work to create safer online spaces for young people.

Please take some time to listen below.

'Anastasia' at Newington High

Bravo to the Newington High School cast and crew!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Newington High School musical Anastasia, and it was truly outstanding. The talent, dedication, and hard work of the cast, stage crew, musicians, teachers, and staff were all on full display in what was an incredibly well-done and memorable performance.

From the acting and singing to the set design, lighting, and live music, every detail came together to create a production the entire community can be proud of.

A special thank you as well to the student chefs, who prepared themed dinner and dessert treats that made the evening even more special!
Congratulations to everyone involved for putting on such a fantastic show. Our students continue to impress and make Newington proud. 👏

New Britain Coffee Hour

I hope to see you there!

Energy Conservation

During a recent Energy and Technology Committee meeting, an energy expert testified about how we can keep our oil and gas costs in check.

While there isn't much that can be done concerning the current cost of commodities, residents can control consumption through conservation, according to the expert.

That incudes the following:

  • Drive your vehicle the speed it's built to be driven. That means driving the speed limit, which is a great way to conserve fuel.
  • Inflate your vehicle's tires.
  • Homeowners should call their fuel companies and schedule annual preventative furnace and boiler maintenance, including burner cleaning and efficiency testing.

Please watch the video below for that testimony.
