There is an urgent need for blood donations across our state. I'll break down why there is a low blood supply and how you can help those in need.

Storm Damage & Cleanup
I would like to thank everyone who was involved with helping storm victims, shutting down roads for downed trees, and cleaning up the damage after last week's high winds and heavy rain. You showed amazing teamwork and leadership during very difficult conditions. The storm was so strong that it knocked out power in most of Derby at one point last week.

I spoke with a representative from United Illuminating a few days ago who informed me that hundreds of crews were dispatched to all reported outage areas. These hard workers went above and beyond to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

The City of Derby reminds residents to bring any brush, debris, or tree limbs to the curb in front of your home. They need to be cut into pieces of no more than six feet. Please email derbydispatch@derbyct.gov so the Public Works Department can schedule a pick up.

Urgent Call for Blood Donations
The Connecticut Blood Center has announced a critical blood emergency and is urging anyone who can to donate immediately. There is an urgent need for all blood types, especially O+ and O-.
Fewer people are donating over the summer due to travel and fewer blood donation clinics, but summer sees an increase in traumatic accidents. Your donation can make a difference in emergencies, surgeries, and for cancer patients. Donate and be a hero today.
