Several new laws passed by the Connecticut General Assembly during the 2026 legislative session will take effect on Thursday, October 1st. Below is a brief overview of some of these important changes.

The U-Pass CT program launched in Fall 2017 and provides free public transportation to eligible students enrolled at participating UConn campuses and Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) schools. The cost is included in student fees, so students only need their U-Pass CT and valid student ID when boarding participating services.

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) helps residents pay for their home heating costs. Applications typically take 30-45 minutes to complete. The last day to apply for benefits is May 31, 2027

This school year, every Connecticut student can start their day with a free breakfast, thanks to the $12 million in funding we secured in the state legislature to provide universal free school breakfast throughout the 2026–27 school year.
