Biography
State Representative and Assistant Majority Leader Chris Perone is honored to serve the 137th District, representing Norwalk in the Connecticut General Assembly.
Most recently, Chris was chosen by House Majority Leader Denise Merrill (D-Mansfield) to spearhead the Majority Leaders’ Job Growth Roundtable legislative package designed to jump start job creation in Connecticut and lay the foundation for long term prosperity.
Now in his third term, Chris is vice - chair of the legislature’s Finance, Revenue & Bonding committee, a member of the Transportation and Commerce committees. He is also a member of the Speaker’s Task Force on Health Care. In his time in the legislature, Chris has spearheaded several important initiatives including the passage of an income tax credit for parents who invest in the state’s 529 plan, creating the Connecticut Broadband Internet Coordinating Council (CBICC) whose focus is to ensure that all residents and businesses in Connecticut have access to affordable broadband service, and has most recently pushed through regulatory flexibility law that would protect small businesses from excessive state regulation. This bill was signed into law by Governor Jodi Rell.
Additionally, Rep. Perone has advanced legislation in the areas of smart growth, enhanced state support of Norwalk public schools, and has worked to increase the state’s responsibility for priority school district funding. Chris has also fought for campaign finance reform, infertility coverage and was a charter member of the Results Based Accountability subcommittee whose task is to reduce wasteful government spending.
Prior to his service at the General Assembly, Chris served as a member of the Norwalk Common Council from District D and then on the board of the Southwestern Regional Planning Association, (S.W.R.P.A.). Chris was also a member of several groups including the Norwalk Education Foundation, the Lockwood Matthew’s Mansion restoration committee and the Norwalk Land Trust.
Chris graduated with a degree in advertising from Syracuse University where he met his wife, Christy.
Chris was raised in Bedford, New York. After college, he lived in Stamford for two years before moving to Norwalk with his wife in 1994. Chris and Christy are the proud parents of their son, Harrison, who is a kindergartener at Jefferson Science Magnet Elementary School in Norwalk.
