Legislative Session Update: Zoning and Housing

April 9, 2024

As a member of the Moderate Caucus, I've been tasked with the responsibility of reviewing all pending Zoning and Housing bills. This role is crucial as it will allow me to ensure that any changes made to our zoning and housing laws are fair, equitable, and beneficial to all residents.

The bills under consideration this year cover a wide range of topics that can affect the growth and development of Bethel and Danbury. With that being said, I remain committed to ensuring that any changes we make in Hartford are in the best interest of our community, fostering well-rounded and sustainable growth while safeguarding the integrity of our neighborhoods.

Despite the challenges posed by the developer-friendly 8-30g housing law, I am optimistic about the potential for partial relief this legislative session. We have a genuine opportunity to provide municipalities with an additional pathway to implement a moratorium on new high-density housing development by recognizing the importance of "middle housing."

Raghib QuoteFurthermore, I am actively advocating against efforts that seek to undermine essential processes such as the design review and Inland Wetlands review for certain development projects. Preserving these safeguards is essential to maintaining the environmental and aesthetic integrity of our communities.

Transparency and communication are paramount values in my approach to governance. I am committed to keeping constituents informed about my work and the progress of these critical bills.

In the lead-up to the legislative session deadline on May 8th, I will be actively negotiating with leadership to ensure that our concerns and priorities are addressed. Together, we can enact policies that promote fairness, sustainability, and prosperity for all residents.
