Pride Month Starts With Action, Not Just Words

June 2, 2025

Dear Neighbors,

As Co-Chair of the Legislature’s LGBTQ+ Caucus, I was proud to stand with state leaders today to mark the beginning of Pride Month and to make it clear that Connecticut isn’t backing down when it comes to protecting LGBTQ+ rights.

In the face of national efforts to roll back hard-won protections, Connecticut is choosing a different path, one of inclusivity, dignity, and action

This legislative session, we are taking significant steps:

  • Protecting LGBTQ+ Elders: Passed bipartisan legislation to prevent discrimination against LGBTQ+ residents in long-term care facilities, ensuring our elders can age with respect and authenticity.
  • Supporting LGBTQ+ Organizations: Securing continued funding for the LGBTQ+ Justice and Opportunity Network, which provides grants to nonprofit, healthcare, and advocacy organizations across the state
  • Defending Healthcare Access: Advanced legislation to shield providers of abortion and gender-affirming care, reinforcing Connecticut as a safe haven for essential healthcare services.
  • Upholding Intellectual Freedom: Introduced measures to protect libraries and librarians from censorship, ensuring access to diverse perspectives and information.

We’ve made real progress this session, but we aren't doing it alone. Every step forward has taken collaboration, courage, and commitment, not just from the LGBTQ+ Caucus, but from our allies across the legislature and communities.

And that brings me to something I said at today’s press conference:

Being an ally isn’t about a pin, a post, or a Pride Month appearance. It’s about showing up, consistently, courageously, and when it counts most.

To every LGBTQ+ individual in Connecticut and beyond: You are seen, you are valued, and we will continue to fight for your rights.
